Frequently Asked Questions…
about me
Where did you go to school? Where did you grow up?
I'm originally from Bridgeport, CT, but my family migrated down to Texas when I was in elementary school (I was disappointed to learn I would not be riding a horse to school), and we eventually settled in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
When I finally did decide to go to college, I attended Texas Wesleyan University and I loved my time there. I majored in political science.
Who are your biggest creative influences?
I find inspiration everywhere from TV to museums to instagram. Richard Avedon's In The American West collection inspired me to write about the South and Texas in particular. I love so many random things like Parks and Rec, Lizzie McGuire, Lizzo, The Alabama Shakes, Mulan, The Little Mermaid (Ursula in particular), Dolly Parton, scary movies, and anything starring Melissa McCarthy, but I’m also incredibly inspired by people out there enacting real progressive change in their communities in big ways and small.
Will you come to my school/library/town?
I love traveling and visiting with readers! There are usually three ways author events happen for me.
1. My publisher plans a tour around the release of my book and I go where they decide to send me.
2. I will sometimes (though not often) plan an event at a local bookstore or library if I'm already traveling to that particular place to see friends or family.
3. A bookstore/library/school invites me to visit. The best way you can help get me to your town is to tell your bookseller/librarian/teacher that you would like for me to visit!
Can I interview you?
All publicity requests can go to my publicist, Sari Murray, at sari.murray@harpercollins.com.
How can I write you a letter/send you something?
I love receiving letters and emails from readers! You can fill out the form on my Contact page to send me an email and you can also find the address for my P.O. box there.
I do my best to respond to everything, but I don't always have time. (My editor usually prefers that I write books instead of emails.) Another great way to interact with me is on my Instagram where I'm always responding to questions in the comments and regularly take questions on my Instagram stories.
